It is essential to wear safety glasses during passenger air bag module service to protect from accidental deployment injuries. You should handle live air bag modules by facing their deployment opening away from your body and also place them in such a way that they do not lie face down to minimize possible injuries. To eliminate skin irritation from sodium hydroxide residues you need to wash your hands with soap and water after deployment. Direct contact with the connectors of the air bag module must never happen because it will trigger deployment that produces harmful injuries to yourself and other bystanders. Always replace air bag modules that display degradation or damage on their deployment doors rather than attempting restoration through paint work and abstain from using memory saver devices due to personal injury risks. A normal operation of the SRS system causes an air bag warning lamp to illuminate during RCM fuse removal with the ignition switch active. The SRS must demonstrate normal operation without any faults prior to handing the vehicle back to the customer. The repair process should involve new part installation but replacing the original part to perform diagnosis again if the problem remains. Start by disempowering the system and proceed to remove the instrument panel upper section. Remove the two electrical connectors from the passenger air bag module and extract the module out from behind the in-vehicle cross car beam. The installation process ends by following the reverse order of removal procedures to reattach the instrument panel upper section before system repower takes place.

First depower the system, then remove the steering wheel access cover.

Avoid placing a live air bag module face down and never probe the connectors on the air bag module.

A chime will sound in a pattern of 5 sets of 5 beeps, indicating that the air bag indicator must be repaired before further diagnosis can proceed.

Inspect the passenger side floorpan for damage and repair as necessary.

Install the safety canopy module front tether bracket bolt, attach the moonroof drain hose routing clips if applicable, reinstall the headliner, and repower the system.

Remove the necessary bolts and detach the safety canopy module, ensuring to move it forward through the rear window defroster wiring.

Components such as the steering column, instrument panel knee bolsters, braces, brackets, seats, safety belts, and SRS wiring should be checked.
