Safety glasses should always be worn during passenger air bag module service to protect yourself from unintentional deployments. The living air bag module requires handling with its air bag and deployment door facing away from your body while keeping the deployment door in a vertical position at all times. It is necessary to wash your hands with soap and water after deployment to eliminate sodium hydroxide that could cause skin irritation. It is essential not to probe connectors on air bag modules because this action might trigger deployment and to replace discolored or damaged deployment doors by disposing of defective units instead of attempting to repaint them. Memory saver devices must not be used since they enhance the risks of personal injuries. When the ignition switch is turned ON the air bag warning lamp lights up because the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed but this normal condition does not indicate any faults. A comprehensive check of the SRS system needs to establish complete functionality before a vehicle returns to the customer. For repairs use new components and re-rerun diagnostics if original components cannot resolve system issues. Uninstalling the passenger air bag module requires system depowering while opening then lowering the glove compartment door followed by disconnecting the electrical connector and unbolting the four securing components. Gently lift up through the glove box opening to unclip the three deployment door pins from the instrument panel and position the module lower end outside of the clips to prevent their reengagement. A complete removal of the module requires releasing all three clips positioned at the top deployment door section. When installing the module first position the J-clips before putting the module into place then insert the trim cover before aligning the pins to activate the deployment door retainers. Secure the module using four bolts then tighten them to 8 Nm, after which reconnect the electrical connector before closing the glove compartment and powering up the system.

Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the passenger air bag module electrical connector, reconnect it, and then reconnect the battery ground cable.

Depower the SRS before servicing any seat equipped with SRS components.

First, disconnect the battery ground cable.

After completing the deactivation, the battery ground cable is reconnected.

Attach the wiring harness retainers, roll down the seat trim cover, check the deployment chute for damage, and ensure it is properly positioned.

Avoid probing the connectors on the air bag module and replace any air bag modules with discolored or damaged deployment doors instead of repainting them.

Prove out the system.
