Start the front brake pad service from a hoisted vehicle which should be placed in NEUTRAL gear. Disassemble and set the brake caliper to the side by removing its two bolts. First remove both brake pads along with their spring clips. A specific tool must be used to protect angular boots and pistons while you operate the tool to compress caliper pistons. Place new brake pads inside the spring clips after which you can position the brake caliper and secure it through installation of the two brake caliper bolts with 35 Nm torque (26 foot lbs.).

Start front brake pad service and repair work by taking off the stopper from the brake master cylinder and inspecting the brake fluid in the reservoir for levels before drawing half of its content out. First support the car before removing the tire assembly along with the wheel. Squeezing objects through the caliper sight hole to retract the pistons leads to damaging them. Avoid letting the caliper dangle free on its own when taking it out; use suitable stand support instead. You should disconnect the brake caliper through the removal of its caliper bolts followed by a lift off the caliper anchor plate. The replacement process requires new pads for the specific areas where the backing plate and rivets exist beyond their specified metal plate thickness and all pad replacements must be done in complete axle sets. Carefully examine brake pads before removing them for inspection and then check the brake disc thickness before switching out any defective brake discs. The caliper requires a complete disassembly for further inspection of leaks or damaged boots when detection of any problems occurs. Inspection of the anchor plate also requires checking guide pin boots for damage and evaluating guide pins for binding or wear; replace any faulty components. A wood block should be used together with an old pad as protective covers while you depress the caliper pistons. The installation process requires reversing the brake master cylinder reservoir removal steps after draining it using clean High Performance DOT 4 Brake Fluid or equivalent DOT 4 fluid that meets Ford specification SAE-J1704-DOT 4. The recommended substitute brake fluid is DOT 3 Brake Fluid (United States) C6AZ-19542-AB which complies with Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A when DOT 4 brake fluid is not accessible.

Never allow the caliper to hang from the brake hose; instead, provide suitable support.

Inspect the pads for wear and contamination, then measure the brake disc thickness, installing a new brake disc if it is not within specification.

Use a hub-mount brake lathe to machine the brake disc, measuring it and resurfacing as needed; if the disc is beyond specification, install a new brake disc.

Remove the brake pads and spring clips, then use a suitable tool to protect the pistons and boots while compressing the caliper pistons.

Reposition the brake caliper and secure it by installing the two brake caliper bolts, tightening them to 35 Nm (26 inch lbs.).
