A service or repair of the auxiliary water pump must start with draining the engine coolant. The next step involves removing the engine air cleaner outlet tube while freeing its clamp to disconnect the upper radiator hose. Start by removing the bolt which enables the receiver/drier positioning then detach the auxiliary coolant flow pump by disconnecting its electrical connector followed by bolt removal. First lift the vehicle and next remove the clamp attached to the heater hose at the dual coolant flow valve before lowering the vehicle down. Unfasten the clamp for a second time to detach the heater hose before removing the auxiliary coolant flow pump which stays connected to its hoses. Transfer the heater hoses from the old to new auxiliary coolant flow pump unit while also cleaning and lubricating all hoses by using coolant hose lubricant or plain water. Reapprove the procedure by cleaning and lubing the cooling system hoses before filling the engine with required coolant.

You need to drain cooling system fluid before commencing water pump repair of the 3.9L engine by extracting the thermostat housing and accessory drive belt. The technician needs to remove each component according to the defined sequence. A new gasket must be used during new water pump installation while checking and lubricating the O-ring with clean engine coolant before final assembly. First tighten the coolant pump bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.) while rotating another 90 degrees. The process for tightening the coolant pump pulley bolts begins with an application of torque force to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) before performing a 45-degree final rotation. The auxiliary coolant flow pump servicing process demands stationing the vehicle on a hoist while it remains in the NEUTRAL position. The first step is to disconnect the engine air cleaner outlet tube followed by coolant drain. Start by loosening the clamp to disconnect the upper radiator hose followed by loosening the clamp between the auxiliary coolant flow pump and the engine hose then proceed with removing them. After removing the clamp from the hose assembly between the auxiliary coolant flow pump and the heater you can disconnect the hose. First disconnect the electrical connector from the auxiliary coolant flow pump before removing its two securing bolts through tightening to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) while reinstalling. Clean and lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water during installation using the reverse order of the removal steps. The procedure concludes with filling the engine cooling system.

Disconnect the heater water hose from the water pump.

Reinstall the accessory drive belt and refill the engine cooling system.

Remove the water crossover assembly.

Remove the air cleaner outlet tube, disconnect the engine vent hose, and detach the upper radiator hose.

Remove the thermostat housing and loosen the coolant pump pulley bolts without removing them.

Reverse the removal procedure for installation, cleaning and lubricating the coolant hoses with plain water if necessary.
