Begin all muffler and tailpipe servicing and repair work on gasoline engines by first placing the vehicle into the NEUTRAL gear on a hoist. controllers during muffler repairs must either be opened at the coupling connecting catalytic converter to muffler or at the intermediate exhaust pipe coupling to muffler. Start by providing support to the muffler and tailpipe assembly and subsequently disconnect the muffler isolators. Begin the process by removing the two bolts which hold the tailpipe isolator and bracket to the frame and detach them from the tailpipe and then remove both components from the vehicle. After supporting the muffler with the tailpipe in its vehicle position restore all components into their original positions. The driver must install the tailpipe isolator and bracket units onto the tailpipe through two frame-screwed tailpipe isolator and bracket bolts while tightening them to 20 Nm (177 lb-inch). Proceed by connecting the muffler isolators followed by inserting either a catalytic converter or a catalytic converter delete pipe or an intermediate pipe between the muffler and the tailpipe. Secure the button of the catalytic converter or delete pipe by fully pushing its end into the slot of the muffler and tailpipe. The Muffler to Converter Torca(R) clamp must be tightened to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). The exhaust system alignment process must be completed when the exhaust system isolators do not reach zero load.
