You must start the alternator repair process by detaching the battery along with the air cleaner assembly. Following the accompanying illustration alongside its table, remove the generator parts in the right sequence. First move the protective cover from the generator B+ terminal to reach the B+ terminal nut. The front end accessory drive belt tensioner should be turned clockwise to lower its tension before moving the belt away. The installation ends by reversing the steps used for removal.

A service operation of the alternator needs users to start by disconnecting the battery. The first step for a 4.6L engine model involves air cleaner outlet pipe removal and the removal of air cleaner inlet pipe is required for 5.4L engine models. The rotation of the front end accessory drive (FEAD) belt tensioner in a clockwise direction results in the placement of the FEAD belt aside. Unfasten the generator harness locator from the generator bracket before removing its four bolts that need tightening to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) when reattaching the bracket. Prior to disconnecting the generator's electric cables make sure you tighten its bolts at 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) during reinstallation. Time to disconnect the electrical connector and place the generator B+ protective boot aside before removing the B+ nut and terminal from the generator to take it out for reinstallation with an 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque setting on the B+ nut. The complete installation process ends with performing the reverse steps from removal.

When servicing the alternator start by taking off the air cleaner outlet pipe from vehicles with the 4.6L engine but the 5.4L engine requires removal of the air cleaner inlet pipe. First disconnect the generator harness locator from the generator bracket before removing four bolts that secure the generator bracket with proper torque of 10 Nm (89 lb-in) when reinstallation occurs. It is essential to loosen both generator bolts for generator movement while accessing electrical connectors yet torque these bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when reinstalling. After detaching the generator electrical connector you must set aside its B+ protective boot to safely access the generator B+ nut and terminal for generator removal. Reinstallation of the generator requires B+ nut torque set to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Reverse the previous procedures to fully install the system.

Remove the bolt and the generator, ensuring to tighten it to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) when reinstalling.

Remove the nut and position the generator harness bracket aside, also tightening it to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) when reinstalling.

Reverse the removal procedure.

Disconnect the generator electrical connector, then position the generator B+ protective boot aside, remove the nut, and disconnect the generator B+ terminal.

Remove the accessory drive belt and the generator bracket bolts.
