A critical post-accident step requires an evaluation of all seat belt components and attaching hardware starting from retractors through buckles and extending to the belt tension sensor (BTS), front seat belt buckle support assemblies (slide bar), seat belt shoulder belt height adjusters and child seat tether bracket assemblies and the automatic locking retractor (ALR) for child seats in passenger areas. The system requires a replacement of damaged or faulty seat belt assemblies which fail to operate correctly and Functional Tests. New seat belt assemblies along with attaching hardware should be installed after the sheet metal structure gets back to its original state because improper installation could result in severe injury or death during a crash event. If a driver or front outboard passenger seat belt pretensioner has activated then new seat belt systems comprising retractors, buckles and height adjusters must be added to decrease potential risks. Regular inspections of seat belt assemblies must be conducted to verify their condition which becomes necessary following exposure to extreme stress. Perform an initial examination of the attaching areas before new seat belts installation to check for damage and distortion then repair the sheet metal for proper original shape before proceeding with the Functional Test Procedure according to installation directions.
