Service and repair operations on the fuel level sensor should start by setting the vehicle to NEUTRAL gear position and placing it on a hoist. First detach the fuel pump module wire harness while unwrapping the sending unit wire then take off the heat shrink tube and disconnect the electrical connector. The fuel gauge sending unit extraction requires removal of the screw and subsequent lifting and removal of the unit. Install the fuel gauge sending unit wire into the center of the fuel pump module while both wires should be placed behind the metal sending unit plate during installation. Position the fuel gauge sending unit onto the pump module while keeping the grounding eyelet on the front side and apply torque to the screw through the grounding eyelet. You should use a heat gun to heat up the heat shrink tube before attaching it to the wire harness and electrical connector. When the fuel pump module is back in place, the sending unit wire needs to wrap around the harness to prevent float arm disruption.

Safety measures are essential for fuel level sensor servicing because highly flammable vapors are present, so avoid lighted tobacco and open flames as well as personal electronic devices near fuel-related components. It is vital to relieve fuel system pressure before disconnection of any parts to stop uncontrolled fuel spray. Start the process by taking out the fuel pump module from the system. Make a record of the sensor wire path which will be required later and then release the wire from its harness connection to the fuel pump module. After the heat shrink tube covers the electrical connector, release it to detach the connector from the circuit. Remove the screw in order to extract the fuel level sensor from its place. Install the wires of the fuel level sensor through the fuel pump module center while positioning them behind the metal sensor plate during assembly. Install the sensor to the fuel pump module while positioning the eyelet at the front, then insert and fasten the screw through the eyelet. The installation requires using a heat gun to heat the tube instead of an open flame while sliding the heat shrink tube onto the wire harness and connecting the electrical connector. Fortify the sensor wire by looping it over the fuel pump module wire harness in order to minimize float arm disturbance and put everything back into position.

A heat gun should be used to heat the heat shrink tube after sliding it on the wire harness during electrical connector connection. Cover the sending unit wire around the fuel pump module wire harness while ensuring it does not block the float arm motion of the fuel gauge sending unit before putting back the fuel pump module.

Reinstall the fuel pump module.
