Safety glasses must be worn while servicing the air bag control module to protect from possible unexpected deployments that could injure you. A proper supplemental restraint system requires correct orientation of the air bag control module (ACM). A vehicle with damage to the center tunnel after a collision requires an inspection of ACM mounting and bracket for deformation before a new ACM should be installed even if air bags deployed or not. Probe the air bag module connectors at all times to avoid air bag deployment and personal injury and maintain all memory saver devices out. Electronic modules react negatively to the formation of static electricity because this phenomenon leads to system damages. When the ACM fuse removal occurs along with a turning ON ignition switch the air bag warning lamp will brighten; this identifiable behavior doesn't indicate any SRS problems. The installation of correct ACM hardware remains essential to prevent the emergence of erroneous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Also test the SRS for proper functionality before customer vehicle handover. The system should be depowered during the initial step before the right side ACM retaining bolts are removed to reposition the carpet. You can disconnect the large ACM electrical connector after pinching the thumb tab while pivoting the connector position assurance lever backward to remove the connector. To remove the ACM one needs to extract the electrical connector locking wedge while releasing the retaining tab and disconnecting a small electrical connector and removing the bolt from its position. The installation process starts by positioning the ACM at the center tunnel area then you must install bolts according to the specified torque requirements for system functionality. The ACM small electrical connector needs proper alignment before being fully inserted and afterward placing the electrical connector locking wedge. Releasing the connector position assurance lever to its maximum extent is mandatory before installing the large ACM electrical connector while ensuring proper alignment to prevent damage. A gentle push on the large connector will result in an audible click that allows you to complete the securing process with the connector position assurance lever. Finally, repower the system.
