Safety glasses are required when servicing the air bag control module in order to avoid injury from any accidental deployment events. The way in which restraints control module (RCM) faces matters because it ensures proper functioning of the air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS). The RCM replacement should always be conducted during center tunnel area damage following a crash yet it should not depend on air bag deployment status. The RCM mounting area needs to be brought back to its factory state. The diagnostic process mandates a review of sensor mounting brackets and wiring pigtail for deformities following collisions with replacements for all damaged SRS components in their correct positioning. Memory saver devices must not be used because they generate risks of personal injuries. A system operates properly when RCM retaining bolts achieve a torque value of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Electronic modules require caution against static electric charges since they are highly sensitive to such charges. It is essential to use the correct replacement part during new RCM installations to stop diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from displaying incorrect values. It is normal for the air bag warning lamp to activate when the RCM fuse is removed under ON ignition switch conditions. Vehicle return to the customer requires complete operational status and absence of all SRS faults in the system. The repair process includes part replacement; however if problems remain after reinstallation of the original component run the diagnostic test once more. The RCM removal requires system power off along with separation of floor console and 20 percent front seat cushion retainer release by pulling them up. You must grab the thumb tab and rotate the connector position assurance lever until backward. After this pull the electrical connector out. To remove the RCM disconnect the small electrical connector while taking out the RCM bolts first before extraction. The installation process starts with RCM bolt positioning followed by execution of the connector position assurance lever release before large electrical connector connection. Slight pressure should be applied to the connector at a straight angle to ensure proper connections and component safety until an audible clicking noise and slight resistance occur. Grip the thumb tab to set the connector in its position after which connect the smaller electrical connector. Reinstall the floor console along with the 20 percent front seat cushion by seating the retainers after proper alignment and using strong pressure. Finally, repower the system.

Ensure the RCM mounting area is restored to its original condition.
