Do not move the horizontal position of the RCM during connection with ignition ON because it can lead to accidental safety canopy deployment. The use of proper RCM units is crucial since vehicles with safety canopies and side air bags need different 40-pin connectors to those without these components and forcing the connector might harm both components. An SRS unit requires full operation with no faults present before you return the vehicle to the customer. To fix the issue you need to install a new component; in case the problem remains you should reinstall the original unit while running diagnostic tests twice. The RCM removal process starts by powering down the system then freeing the lower LH center instrument panel finish panel before readjusting the carpet on the LH and RH tunnel to reach the RCM. You must disconnect the RCM electrical connector through the thumb tab pinching method while rotating the connector position assurance lever backward to expose the connector. Detach the small RCM electrical connector while you remove the three bolts fastening the RCM in position. The RCM should be placed into position before installing and tightening the three bolts to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft). When attaching the small RCM electrical connector start by freeing the position assurance lever then proceed to join the large RCM electrical connector. To avoid connector damage, position the large connector correctly before applying light pressure which should produce a click sound and complete the connector with the lever. Activate and lock the thumb tab for security. Reinstall the lower LH center instrument panel finish panel followed by reconnection of the system power before reinstalling the carpet.

Position the RCM, install the three bolts tightening them to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft), and connect the small RCM electrical connector.
