Correct system operation depends on the right orientation of the vehicle sensor during impact sensor servicing. An inspection of the sensor mounting bracket and wiring pigtail needs to take place after a collision with a vehicle containing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) to check for deformation and the sensor and any SRS component must be properly located and replaced in case of damage whether air bags were deployed or not. All personal safety measures must start with disconnecting the ground cable from the battery power supply and allowing it to sit for one full minute before reconnection. This process must also include disconnection of any auxiliary battery or power supply systems if present. The side crash sensors rest underneath the carpet that lies beneath the front seats. Start by removing the battery ground cable before you detach the front seat from the vehicle while moving the carpet to reach the side crash sensor. The process for removing the side crash sensor includes disconnecting its electrical connector and removing the push pin from the wiring harness and bolts followed by removing the side crash sensor with bracket. Install the air bag side crash sensor by following the uninstallation sequence in reverse order while keeping the proper bolt torque for correct system functionality. The completed air bag system needs to undergo a proving process. The restraint system diagnostic tool exists only for maintenance tasks during which the device must be removed from vehicles before road use because safety standards could be broken or people can get hurt.

The first step in servicing the Air Bag Control Module (ACM) includes verifying the back up power supply is empty to prevent unintentional deployment and any resulting injuries. Start by disconnecting the battery ground cable along with all auxiliary power supplies and batteries that the vehicle has in case it is equipped with them. Electrical charges need to be handled carefully as they pose dangers to electronic modules. The first step involves removing the utility compartment through four pushpin removal and direct pull of retaining clips. You should begin by pulling back the carpet during the next step and remove two retaining bolts on the passenger side ACM bracket before extracting the ACM and bracket through disconnection of two connector locking clips and two electrical connectors. The second retaining bolt must be taken off before working on the driver side. Install the system by following the reverse order of removal and check the ACM bracket retaining bolt torques to ensure operational system function. A verification test of the air bag system must be performed following its installation. Keep the Restraint System Diagnostic Tool dedicated only to service work but extract it from vehicles before any road trips to maintain safety guidelines and prevent injuries.
