Service of the rear ABS sensor starts by disconnecting the battery ground cable followed by vehicle lift elevation for accessibility. The first step of removal requires cleaning away all debris that surrounds the rear ABS sensor to keep fluids out of the area. Cut power to the sensor by disconnecting its electrical connection, followed by removing the bolt that secures the rear ABS sensor before extracting the sensor device. The installation must happen without letting any dust enter the rear axle housing. Begin by cleaning the mounting surface of the axle, then inspect the rear ABS sensor pole piece for magnetization and check the O-ring for damage, which might require replacement. Install the rear ABS sensor while lightly applying SAE 75W-140 High Performance Rear Axle Lubricant F1TZ-19580-B or an equivalent meeting Ford specification WSL-M2C192-A to the O-ring. Then reestablish the electrical connector to the bolt, using caution when connecting the plastic connector. The drive performance of the vehicle may appear unusual until the adaptive strategy reeducation completes during a minimum journey covering 10 miles (16 km) or more.

First disconnect the electrical connector before removing the bolt to extract the rear ABS sensor. The O-ring needs a light application of SAE 75W-140 High Performance Rear Axle Lubricant F1TZ-19580-B or an equivalent that matches Ford specification WSL-M2C192-A before placing the rear ABS sensor in position without touching the plastic connector. Then install the sensor bolt before reconnecting the electrical connector. Driving the vehicle will result in abnormal drive symptoms before the adaptive strategy relearns so drive for at least 16 km (10 miles) to complete the process.

Separate the sensor cable from the brake hose clips.

Avoid force on the plastic connector.

Disconnect the battery and raise and support the vehicle.

Check the O-ring for any damage and replace it if necessary.

Reverse the removal steps.

Position the rear axle speed sensor and install the bolt without applying force to the plastic connector.

Take out the front anti-lock brake sensor (part B).

Reverse the removal procedure.

Separate the sensor cable from the brake hose clips.
