Service of the side crash sensor starts by confirming correct sensor orientation since it ensures system functionality. The side crash sensor of a vehicle with SRS should get inspected for any deformations or damage to its mounting bracket and wiring pigtail when assessing a car that has been involved in a collision. Damaged SRS components must be replaced and correctly positioned regardless of air bag deployment. Begin work only if you disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute while also removing all auxiliary batteries and power supplies that exist in the system. Side air bag sensors exist at or near the bottom section of the B-pillar. A technician should begin side crash sensor removal by disconnecting the electrical connector before removing two retaining bolts to free the sensor with its bracket. Install the system by performing steps in reverse order and maintain the correct torque values on air bag side crash sensor retaining bolts for system functionality. The proof test on the air bag system becomes necessary post-installation process. The restraint system diagnostic tool serves for restraint system service needs only but becomes mandatory for vehicle road use removal before the start of operations to avert injuries and ensure compliance with safety standards.

The front external crash sensor must keep its correct position to enable proper system operation during service procedures. Following a vehicle collision with air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) the sensor mounting bracket and wiring pigtail must be examined for deformation and all SRS components which sustained damage need proper repositioning or replacement irrespective of whether the air bag deployed. All service personnel must empty the back up power supply by disconnecting the ground cable from the battery for at least one minute during any front or side air bag SRS component repair or replacement or any service or adjustment on components near air bag sensors like doors, instrument panels, consoles, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches. Additional power sources should also be removed if present. The replacement process includes adding new components but maintaining the first unit if the new fixture fails to solve the trouble before running through diagnostic checks again. First disconnect the battery ground cable for one minute then remove the radiator grill alongside the radiator opening cover followed by disconnecting the air bag sensor electrical connector before removing the three screws and extracting the air bag sensor. First prove the air bag system after reversing all installation steps. The restraint system diagnostic tool exists only for restraint system servicing tasks so it needs removal from vehicles before any road use to protect against harm and safety standard infractions.
