The service of front impact severity sensors begins with disabling the SRS system in the vehicle. Examine the restraints control module (RCM) and impact sensor attaching areas for deformation if the vehicle experienced a collision. Restore all original production specifications and install brand new RCM and sensors because this prevents fatal injuries. The vehicle needs two front impact severity sensors designed to be installed on matching positions on each side of the hood latch near the radiator core support. Refer to the service information to remove three pin-type retainers and the radiator upper shield before you gently detach the two bolts securing the front impact severity sensor while maintaining clean mating surfaces without any debris. After disconnecting the electrical connector remove the sensor and follow the reverse removal steps to install the new sensor with bolt torques equal to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Before releasing the vehicle to the customer ensure the SRS has full operational capacity and no system failures exist after performing the repowering process. The technician must tighten all fasteners to their specified torque levels because improper restraint system operation from incorrectly applied torque presents potential risks for crash injuries.

First depower the vehicle SRS system before servicing the side impact sensor. The RCM and impact sensor mounting areas need detailed inspection for any crash-related deformations in vehicles that have been crashed; all restoration must return components to their original design and drivers must install fresh RCM together with new sensors regardless of air bag deployment before conducting any service on these components. Each B-pillar contains its side impact sensor positioned toward the base. The first step requires removing the B-pillar trim panel located at its lower section. Motorists must disconnect the electrical connector prior to removing the side impact sensor with bracket by detaching both bolts securing it. Install the side impact sensor with bracket by placing it correctly and tighten each bolt to 12 Nm (106 lb-in) according to the specified installation sequence. The vehicle release process requires that the electrical connector gets reinstalled followed by lower B-pillar trim panel installation and SRS power-up with a fault-free system examination.

Safety glasses should always be worn when serving the side impact sensor because it protects against potential air bag-related injuries and prevents the use of memory saver devices. The correct position of Vehicle sensors depends on system function so a post-collision check should inspect both sensor brackets and wiring pigtail for deformities but replacements and restorations should occur regardless of air bag deployment. The RCM fuse removal will cause the air bag warning lamp to turn on while the ignition switch is ON but this condition does not imply any system fault. Thoroughly check the SRS system for all faults before giving the vehicle back to the customer. Repair procedures require new parts installation and you should retest after reinstallation of the original component. Each side impact sensor exists at the base of the B-pillars. Depower the system before you remove the driver side front scuff plates and rear scuff plates followed by the B-Pillar weather stripping on the same side. To take off the driver side B-pillar lower trim panel users must first release its retaining clips. Unbolt the specified sequence of side impact sensor fasteners and detach the electrical wire before removing the sensor with the bracket. The installation process requires proper torque retention of air bag side impact sensor retaining bolts together with sequential sensor insertion after reconnecting the electrical connector and returning restored trim panel together with weather stripping and scuff plates before the system powering up.

There are two front impact severity sensors, one on each side of the hood latch on the radiator core support.

Reinstall the original part and repeat the diagnostic procedure.

The installation of new parts.

Position the side impact sensor with bracket, install and tighten the bolts, reconnect the electrical connector, align the lower B-pillar trim panel, and push in to seat the retaining clips before repowering the system.
