Intermediate Shaft

Start the procedure of servicing or repairing rear axle shafts by removing the wheel along with tire and discarding the wheel hub nut. First remove the bolt while setting the ABS wheel speed sensor to the side. Start by detaching the shock absorber lower bolt and flagnut followed by support of the lower arm. The repair sequence begins with unscrewing the upper arm bolt along with its nut followed by removing the four toe link bracket nuts. The Front Hub Remover tool will separate the axle shaft from the wheel hub while the oil seal protector requires protection until you insert the axle shaft using a suitable pry bar. Keep and temporarily set aside the circlip from the stub shaft. The correct circlip should be used for installation purposes since incorrect selection could lead to removal difficulties which may separate during operation. After installation, a new circlip needs to be installed onto the stub shaft. The Axle Seal Protector helps place the axle shaft into the differential when both the side gear and circlip should lock securely. Place the axle shaft within the hub assembly with the Axle Shaft Installer before tightening the upper arm bolt to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) along with the nut. Vehicle owners should avoid tightening the rear wheel hub nut when the vehicle rests on the ground since they should install the new wheel hub nut and tighten it to 255 Nm (188 lb-ft). Position the new nut inside the keyway with its minimum part below the diameter at 1 mm (0.039 in) to activate the locking element. The four rear toe link bracket nuts get tightened to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) before the shock absorber lower bolt and flagnut receive a torque of 115 Nm (85 lb-ft). Reposition the ABS wheel speed sensor while installing its bolt until it reaches a torque level of 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). Add the designated amount of lubricant and put back the tire along with wheel.

Use a Ball Joint Separator and Adapter, tapping the wheel knuckle if necessary.
