The correct service sequence for ignition coil-on-plug and spark plug includes component removal beginning with the specified elements first. Begin by taking off the EVAP canister purge valve cover on the left-hand side of the ignition coil cover bolts followed by uninstalling EVAP canister purge valve bracket nuts while setting aside the valve assembly. The service technician should eliminate all silicone sealer and residue both from the coil cover along with the valve cover surface and ignition coil wiring harness. Use compressed air to remove any foreign elements inside the spark plug well before starting the spark plug removal process. Reverse the removal process to install the components while thoroughly checking the spark plugs for their condition followed by adjusting any necessary gap. Administration of silicone dielectric compound inside ignition coil boots should be made immediately before coil installation. Before silicone application for the valve cover initiate a cleaning process and garbage removal while using a 12.7 mm (0.5 in) bead of silicone sealer to cover the valve cover notch by lifting the wire harness along. When placing the coil harness into the bead of silicone you should apply enough extra sealer to coat the surrounding wire harness and notch before continuing with installation.

Look for wet, black deposits on the insulator shell bore electrodes and address any oil leak concerns before installing a new spark plug.

To complete the installation, reverse the removal procedure.

Ensure light tan or gray deposits are present on the firing tip.

Engine overheating, the wrong type of fuel, loose spark plugs, spark plugs with an incorrect heat range, low fuel pump pressure, or incorrect ignition timing.
