Initiate coil spring and shock absorber servicing repairs on the vehicle when it is in neutral position with its steering wheel yet to unlock and secured on a hoist. First place reference marks on mount, spring and shock for future reinstallation then remove the shock absorber and spring assembly. A suitable spring compressor should be used to reduce spring tension until shock absorber tension eases before removing the shock and spring assembly shaft nut by placing a 10-mm 6 point deep well socket on top of the strut shaft and using a pass-through socket wrench on the strut shaft nut. When holding the nut stable you can remove the strut shaft and check the new spring part number if needed. When reassemble the strut shaft you should follow the disassembly steps in reverse and torque the shaft to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.). The wheel alignment must be checked followed by possible adjustments. When replacing suspension fasteners always use identical parts by number or equivalent components to prevent performance problems and avoid improper retention by following specified torque values during assembly.

Ensure the rear axle U-channel fits completely into the saddle of the jack stand to prevent damage.

Install the rear spring on the rear axle assembly, ensuring it is correctly seated, then raise the rear axle assembly using the jack stand.

Disconnect the speed control cable if equipped, and remove the three shock absorber upper nuts.

Use a suitable spring compressor to compress the spring until the tension is released.

Position it on the rear axle assembly and press it into place, ensuring it is correctly seated.

Begin by removing the cowl panel grille.

Tighten the pinch bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).
