How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on Mercury Monterey? Posted by Customer
    A:
To maintain coil springs start by removing shock absorbers and assembly units. Create index marks to use later on both the mount and spring and shock absorber unit. You need to use a proper spring compressor to compress the spring after which you can remove the shock absorber shaft nut by placing a suitable pass-through socket wrench onto the strut shaft nut followed by a 10-mm 6 point deep well socket on top of the strut shaft. Take out the strut shaft with the nut fixed in place before tightening it to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.). Verify the new spring part number with data from the vehicle certification label spring code by converting it to the appropriate part number through Vehicle/Application and ID. The front end alignment must be checked during reassembly as technicians need to apply specified torque values for critical suspension fasteners to ensure retention. All fasteners require parts with identical numbers or equivalent parts to prevent performance problems.
