Service of the coolant reservoir begins with draining the engine cooling system. Next, remove the degas bottle. For installing the degas bottle perform the reverse steps of removal.

The servicing procedure for the coolant reservoir depends on waiting for engine cooling since operating under pressure enables steam and hot liquid to pop out with dangerous force resulting in severe injuries. You can unlock the cooling system pressure through a gradual counter-clockwise turn of the pressure relief cap until it reaches one half turn before removing it. Hose clamp pliers will secure the degas bottle-to-radiator hose while you move the coolant fluid from the bottle through a suction device. The radiator-to-degas bottle hose requires disconnecting from the degas bottle after removing its two nuts at 6 Nm torque setting (53 lb-in) before installation. You should lift the degas bottle to unclose the degas bottle-to-radiator hose then remove the degas bottle. Perform installation by following the opposite steps of removal while filling the degas bottle with specified coolant mixture and reaching the correct fill mark.

Before accessing the coolant reservoir ensure the engine temperature is cool since the cooling system operates with pressure which leads to strong steam and hot liquid discharge that could injure the technician. First step includes opening the cooling system pressure through counterclockwise turns of one half rotation on the pressure cap followed by its removal. A suction device requires hose clamp pliers to draw the coolant from the degas bottle which is connected to the radiator through the hose clamp utility. When installing the degas bottle disconnect the hose that connects the radiator to the bottle by loosening the two bottle retaining nuts to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) torque spec. The degas bottle raises before disconnecting the degas bottle-to-radiator hose for removal of the bottle. The installation process requires following the opposite steps from removal then filling the degas bottle to its designated specifications.

Reverse the removal procedure.

Remove the two degas bottle nuts.

First, drain the engine cooling system.

Disconnect the radiator-to-degas bottle hose, and for 2.3L vehicles, also disconnect the degas bottle-to-coolant bypass housing hose.

Drain the cooling system and disconnect the radiator-to-degas bottle hose from the degas bottle.
