Throttle Cable

Performing service or repairs on the accelerator cable requires you to make sure the sliding inner cable, accelerator pedal and pedal shaft stay away from wiring, hoses, sound insulation and floor carpeting because such contacts might stop the accelerator cable movement and affect braking safety resulting in significant injuries. The accelerator pedal alongside the shaft should operate without any resistance during acceleration between idle speed and full throttle. The sliding inner member of the accelerator cable cannot be lubricated and therefore remains non-repairable. Initiate repairs by detaching the accelerator pedal cable followed by the screw then pin-type retainer then accelerator control cover shield which requires tightening to 4 Nm (35 lb-in) at reassembly. For the installation the first step involves disconnecting the accelerator cable from the throttle body followed by compressing the tabs to pull out the cable from the bracket as the bracket screw requires 5 Nm (44 lb-in) torque when initially mounted. The installation process requires first removing the accelerator cable pin-type retainer from the bracket together with extracting the grommet from the dash panel and the accelerator cable. The removal procedure should be done in reverse to finalize the installation.
