Start the power steering line servicing of the steering gear to fluid cooler return hose by using an appropriate suction tool to drain power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir. The next step requires compressing the clamp to free the return hose from the cooler before removing the return hose fitting from the steering gear while setting torque at 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) for installation. After finishing the removal steps you will put back the components and refill the power steering system with fluid according to the procedure. The entry of foreign material must be avoided throughout the process because foreign objects may fail the power steering elements.

The first step for power steering line maintenance between the power steering pump and steering gear requires hoisting the vehicle in NEUTRAL. Clean all threads on the power steering pump pulley then remove it before disconnecting the pressure line-to-pump fitting that needs to be tightened to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) at reinstallation time. The procedure requires disconnection of the pressure line from its clip followed by cleaning the fitting threads before unscrewing the pressure line and steering gear fitting. The reinstallation torque should be 20 Nm (177 lb-in). The power steering system service ends with filling the system after performing the reverse installation steps.

Use a suitable suction device.

First, remove the cooling fan stator and then the power steering pump pulley.

Use a suitable suction device to remove the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.

Disconnect the coolant hoses from the air cleaner outlet tube.
