Power Steering Return Hose

A correct power steering line and hose servicing procedure begins by putting the vehicle into NEUTRAL position while hoisting it. Avoid contaminant exposure to the power steering system because it will shorten the lifespan of all components. You must take out the banjo bolt from the power steering pressure line to detach it from the pump while discarding both the bolt and seals and subsequently torquing the new connection to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). When installing the new connection for the 2.3L engine pressure line bracket-to-sub frame bolt use 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) torque. To install the line-to-reservoir on the 3.0L engine, users must first remove the bolt and detach the electrical harness retainer from the pressure line bracket before tightening the new connection to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). The next step requires removal of RH cylinder head bolts and steering gear bolt from the pressure line bracket before tightening the new connection to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). You should remove the banjo bolt from the steering gear before taking out the pressure line and discard the bolt with its seals then tighten the new connection to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.). The rules state that installing fresh bolts and seals should always happen whenever you detach the pressure line from either the pump or steering gear. The installation and power steering system filling process should start by reversing the removal steps.

Disconnect the electrical connectors from the PCM and detach the wiring harness retainer from the PCM bracket, setting the harness aside.
