    Q:
How to Service and Repair the 6-Speed Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Lines on Lincoln MKZ? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the service and repair process of 6-speed transmission fluid cooler tubes by positioning the vehicle on a hoist while it remains in NEUTRAL. The upper transmission fluid cooler tube needs to be removed from the radiator after which 7 bolts and splash shield must be removed if present along with the front splash shield requiring removal of 2 screws and 4 retainers and 4 bolts. Users must carefully disconnect the lower transmission fluid cooler tube from the radiator by avoiding excessive force on the hose clamps designed with special epoxy because tube replacement may be necessary in case of damage. First remove the transmission fluid cooler tubes by disconnecting their hoses and then unfasten the 2 bolts which secure them in position. You should only detach the tubes from their retainers without unfastening them from the shroud. Mount the new O-rings to the transmission fluid cooler tubes before installing them on their respective positions and tight the fittings to 10 Nm torque (89 inch lbs.). Insert the tubes into position while installing the retainer and direct the power steering hose to pass between the transmission fluid cooler hoses. Use caution when attaching the transmission fluid cooler hoses to their respective tubes through proper hose clamp installation. The installation of the lower transmission fluid cooler tube into the radiator requires a torque of 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) before proceeding with the front splash shield installation by using 2 screws and securing fasteners along with 4 bolts. For models with this requirement replace the 7 bolts and the splash shield and install the upper transmission fluid cooler tube into the radiator while tightening it to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). After removing the fluid fill plug users should check the transmission fluid level at normal operating temperature which should fall between the two top marks. Users need to add automatic transmission fluid before reinstallation and tightening the fluid fill plug to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs. torque).
