- Q: How to service and repair the upper intake manifold on 2000 Ford E-150 Econoline?A: Service or repair work on the upper intake manifold requires starting by removing both the air cleaner assembly together with the engine cover. Remove the electrical cables from the ignition coil by disconnecting the ignition coil connector as well as the radio ignition interference capacitor connector. The positions of the spark plug wires should be marked before disconnecting because cylinder-to-coil tower relations indicate which ignition coil terminals each wire should connect to. After disconnecting the accelerator cable move to disconnect the speed control actuator cable (if equipped) along with the vapor management hose and wiring located at the throttle position sensor of the throttle body. First remove the accelerator cable bracket before disconnecting the brake booster vacuum hose together with removing the throttle cable/speed control routing clip retaining screw. The manifold vacuum connection along with heated PCV requires removal thanks to the elimination of PCV tube and water tubes. Disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve together with the transmission dipstick tube routing bracket retaining nut and solenoid mounting bracket. The procedure requires removal of the two engine vacuum regulator EGR transducer bracket stud bolts followed by setting the bracket aside. First disconnect the power from the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC valve) before breaking the nuts to set the vapor management valve aside. Then remove the bolts and the upper intake manifold. Throw away the upper gasket in the intake manifold system. Turn around the steps of removal and mount a fresh intake manifold upper gasket while performing the installation process. Terminate the bolt installation process in two steps by starting with 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.) torque followed by an additional 90-degree turn.
