2000 Ford E-250 Econoline Brake Disc Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the front brake disc on 2000 Ford E-250 Econoline?
A: The service and repair process for front brake rotor/disc on E-250, E-350, E-450 models requires removal of the front disc brake caliper anchor plate first. Start brake disc and hub removal by taking out the hub grease cap followed by the cotter pin, nut retainer, spindle nut, front wheel outer bearing retainer washer and outer front wheel bearing before proceeding to the brake disc and hub. When resurfacing becomes essential the lathe manufacturer should provide instructions to perform on-vehicle machining that requires removal of the wheel hub grease seal combined with the inner front wheel bearing. When installing the components workers should use Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F3AZ-19579-SA or an equivalent cleaner to clean and inspect front wheel bearings and brake disc and hub. The installation consists of applying Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or -K or Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B equivalent material to the front wheel bearings before inserting a wheel hub grease seal and an inner front wheel bearing followed by a second wheel hub grease seal. First fit the brake disc together with the hub before placing the outer front wheel bearing and the front wheel outer bearing retainer washer. The spindle nut installation requires rotating the brake disc and hub while you tighten it and complete two final loosenings before a proper tightening. Twist the spindle nut twice as you rotate the brake disc and hub before retightening it with additional rotations of the brake disc followed by another nut loosening and tightening operation. The final installation steps include placing the nut retainer and cotter pin and hub grease cap together with the front disc brake caliper anchor plate.
