2000 Ford Excursion Voltage Regulator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the voltage regulator in gasoline-engine generators on 2000 Ford Excursion?
A: The repair process for the voltage regulator begins with generator removal but this procedure only works for gasoline generators because 7.3L diesel engines possess a regulated generator inside their system. Start by removing the four screws that secure the voltage regulator while proceeding to separate both the generator brush and terminal holder. Separating the generator brush and terminal holder from the voltage regulator requires removing the screw cap together with the two screws fastening the brush and terminal holder. The installation process begins with placing the brush and terminal holder onto the voltage regulator then fastening with screws and putting back the screw cap which must cover Test Terminal A so the battery positive connection does not get shorted. Depress the brushes and add a wire for stabilizing them before putting in the generator brush with the terminal holder and voltage regulator set-up. Once the voltage regulator is installed, remove the wire without losing its position and complete the installation. Finally, reinstall the generator.
