- Q: How to Service and Repair Rear Coil Springs on 2000 Ford Expedition?A: The repair and servicing process of the rear coil spring begins by properly lifting the vehicle and implementing appropriate wheel support while avoiding the use of heat to free stuck wheel nuts since it could damage the wheel and bearings. The first step requires removal of the wheel together with its tire followed by separation of the driveshaft. To service the rear coil spring disconnect the rear Brake Anti-Lock Sensor (ABS) electrical connector from its docking point while completely releasing parking brake control tension through front parking brake cable management and a suitable retainer installation at the parking brake control. You must detach each parking brake cable and conduit at the rear axle bracket assembly of the caliper component before proceeding to the opposite side. The disc brake caliper should be set aside by bolt removal followed by wire securing for both sides. You must detach the stabilizer bar and the axle vent tube from the rear axle through changing stabilizer bar retainer bolts and then separating those retainers. First elevate the rear axle with a high-lift jack before removing shock absorber bolts and nuts from the lower position. Apply the same procedure to the second side. Proceed by removing the rear axle-to-trackbar assembly bolt as well as the rear suspension lower arm assembly-to-axle bolt and the rear suspension upper arm assembly-to-rear axle bolt on both sides. The procedure starts by reducing the rear axle height then removing the coil spring. You should delay tightening all nuts and bolts until you elevate the rear suspension to become level with the ground; afterward tighten them to specifications.
