2000 Ford Expedition Coil Springs Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Front Coil Springs on 2000 Ford Expedition?
A: It is essential to disable the air suspension system power by switching off the air suspension switch in the RH kick panel before maintaining or repairing front coil spring components to prevent unexpected system inflation or deflation. First lift and stabilize the vehicle before you take out the tire together with the wheel assembly while avoiding heat applications because this can harm the wheel and bearings. You must begin the process with shield removal and move down to discard the nut and washer at the upper shock absorber until you remove the front shock absorber by cutting its attaching nuts. The brake hose bracket needs detachment from the front suspension lower arm before removing the front stabilizer bar link nut. To remove the lower ball joint castle nut apply a Coil Spring Compressor on the front coil spring before taking out the lower ball joint castle nut with its associated cotter pin removed. The Pitman Arm Puller enables you to disassemble the lower ball joint from the front wheel spindle while setting the spindle to the side before taking out the front coil spring. The front coil spring needs placement into the front suspension lower arm but the first hole remains exposed and the second hole shows the spring. The installation process requires you to place a new cotter pin with the lower ball joint castle nut and afterward install the front stabilizer bar link nut. Following removal of the Coil Spring Compressor install the front shock absorber with its lower nuts before proceeding to install both upper shock absorber nut and washer. Secure the brake hose bracket screw with the brake disc shield attached. A wheel hub cleaning process is required before tire installation to establish metal contact that defends against wheel nut failure and regaining control. One should activate the air suspension system by turning on the air suspension switch before carrying out front end alignment inspection and adjustment.
