2000 Ford Expedition Spindle Parts Q&A

  • Q: What steps should be taken before beginning the spindle service and repair on 2000 Ford Expedition?
A: Service and repair operations on the spindle must start with turning off the air suspension power via the air suspension switch in the RH kick panel to block unexpected air spring activity that might shift the vehicle during maintenance tasks. Support the lifted vehicle and remove the tire assembly by hand while avoiding any misuse of heat that might harm wheel parts and bearings. Begin by taking away the brake disc shield then put the front suspension lower arm onto the High-Lift Jack for support. Discard the disc cotter pin on the upper ball joint castle nut and detach the nut afterward. The ball joint needs separation from the front wheel spindle using a Pitman Arm Puller followed by taking off the upper shock absorber nut and washer before removing the front shock absorber by disconnecting lower nuts. After discarding the cotter pin starting with the tie-rod castle nut removal use the Pitman Arm Puller two more times to separate the front wheel spindle from tie-rod end. A Coil Spring Compressor enables compressing the front coil spring so you can remove the lower ball joint castle nut after discarding the cotter pin and removing the castle nut. The Pitman Arm Puller should separate the lower ball joint before you remove the front wheel spindle from the system. Proceed with new hardware when reinstalling and follow the step-by-step removal instructions while checking and adjusting the front end alignment at the end.
