How to service and repair the brake backing plate on 2000 Ford F-150?

The backing plate maintenance process starts with taking out the brake shoes and linings from the rear of the vehicle. The first step involves removing the axle shaft followed by removal of both the axle shaft together with the rear hub if necessary. A compressed cable retainer will split the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the backing plate of the brake. First disconnect the brake line fitting of the rear wheel cylinder then remove its two bolts and finish by removing the wheel cylinder. The brake backing plate becomes detachable after removing all four backing plate-to-axle flange nuts and bolts. To install reverse the disassembly sequence and complete brake system bleeding as a final step.
