- Q: How to service and repair the upper intake manifold on 2000 Ford F-150?A: Start all servicing and repairing work on the upper intake manifold by taking out the engine air cleaner outlet tube. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical cables starting with the connector labeled (1) for ignition coil and (2) for radio ignition capacitor and (3) for IAC valve. Before disconnecting spark plug wires it is essential to mark their locations so installation can be done correctly to their specific ignition coil terminals. Start by removing the accelerator control splash shield after you detach its bolts before disconnecting the accelerator cable end (A) and speed control actuator cable end (B) when such components are present. Start by removing bolt (A) and bolt (B) if present before setting aside the accelerator cable (C) with speed control actuator cable (D) if present beside it. The EVAP return tube and brake booster vacuum hose and intake manifold vacuum along with heated PCV require the PCV tube and water tubes to be disconnected for the next stage. The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve needs removal while setting aside the EGR bracket following removal of its bolts. Unplug the electrical connection of the Throttle Position (TP) sensor before taking off the crankcase ventilation hose. Disassemble the upper intake manifold by removing its bolts and discard the upper gasket afterwards. Install new upper gasket then position the upper intake manifold by tightening the bolts first to 6 Nm then to 8 Nm followed by an additional 90° rotation. Before adding stud bolts replace the crankcase ventilation hose then connect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector along with installing the EGR bracket. The heated PCV needs installation through the connection of heater water hoses and PCV tube along with the intake manifold vacuum attachment before installing the positive crankcase ventilation valve. You must reconnect the brake booster vacuum hose together with the Vapor Management Valve (VMV) hose. For the accelerator cable (A) and the speed control actuator cable (B), it is necessary to install bolts (C) and (D) if they exist in the system. At last connect the ends of accelerator cable (A) and speed control actuator cable (B) provided. After positioning the accelerator control splash shield you must install the bolts (B). Reattach the ignition coil electrical wires beginning with the electrical connector (1) then proceed to the radio interference capacitor electrical connector (2) and finally the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connector (3). Use the recorded terminal location from initial removal. The last installation step involves fixing the engine air cleaner outlet tube.
