- Q: How to service and repair the lower intake manifold on 2001 Ford F-150?A: Start servicing the lower intake manifold by detaching the intake manifold spacer assembly before you unplug the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve vacuum hose and remove both the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube upper fitting and intake manifold components. The first step includes removing the upper radiator hose from the lower intake manifold coupled with disconnecting the intake manifold runner control electrical connector before removing the fuel rail. The technician disconnects water bypass tubing and heated PCV system heater liquid pipes before removing long and short bolts securing the lower intake manifold and extracting it while discarding the sealing parts. The first step in installation is to install lower intake manifold end seals at both front and rear positions by applying silicone gasket and sealant at the mounting points. You need to position the lower intake manifold carefully right after applying sealant because you must install it within a four-minute time frame before tightening the bolts correctly into their positions. The long and short bolts should be fitted loosely before a two-step tightening process that starts with 5 Nm (44 lb-in.) and finishes at 10 Nm (89 lb-in.). When managing the manifold installation process reconnect both the water bypass hose and the heated PCV system heater water hose while installing the fuel rail, connecting the IMRC electrical connector, attaching the upper radiator hose to the lower intake manifold and connecting the EGR valve vacuum hose and installing the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube upper fitting.
