2000 Ford F-150 Timing Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Cover on 2000 Ford F-150?
A: The service or repair process for the timing cover starts with disconnecting the battery ground cable and emptying the engine cooling system. You must first remove the Engine Air Cleaner (ACL) and then take away both upper radiator hose and fan shroud and lower radiator hose. Beginning the service requires disconnecting both the camshaft position sensor electrical wiring followed by raising and supporting the vehicle. Before starting the work service you must drain engine oil while you remove the oil pan drain plug then disconnect the crankshaft sensor electrical connection. You should move aside the engine wiring harness before you take out the power steering pump bracket bolts and nuts which enables you to move the A/C compressor out of the way. The crankshaft pulley and crankshaft damper need removal together with four securing bolts. The procedure starts with lowering the vehicle then removing the heater hoses connected to supply tube followed by wiring harness detachment from outlet tube. Begin by removing the heater water outlet tube and camshaft synchronizer before extracting both the crankshaft front oil seal and front cover plus front cover gasket when also unscrewing the concealed cap screw to stop harming the front cover surface. Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA which meets Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4 for a small amount of application on the front cover mounting surfaces and oil pan surfaces as well as cylinder block surfaces. As a preventive measure install the cap screw first followed by applying sealant to the front cover gasket before installation. This process prevents oil leakage. Rearrange front cover installation by tightening the bolts twice to reach 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.) followed by a 90° rotation. After securing the camshaft synchronizer install the heater water outlet tube and connect both the wiring harness and tube together. The installation of supply tube heater hoses should be completed after vehicle elevation with proper support to finally add four front oil pan-to-engine front cover bolts. The crankshaft pulley receives reinstatement after which the crankshaft damper installation takes place followed by tightening the nuts including the power steering pump bracket bolts. Lower the vehicle after installing the crankshaft sensor shield as well as connecting its electrical connector. After installing the crankshaft front oil seal the technician should return the battery ground cable back in place and put on the lower radiator hose along with fan shroud and upper radiator hose. You should return the engine air filter and top off the cooling system then install the oil drain plug while using fresh Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or any equivalent product which meets Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G. Operation of the vehicle should follow a leak test to verify system integrity.
