    Q:
How to Service and Repair a Timing Cover on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer
    A:
The service or repair process for the timing cover starts with disconnecting the battery ground cable and emptying the engine cooling system. You must first remove the Engine Air Cleaner (ACL) and then take away both upper radiator hose and fan shroud and lower radiator hose. Beginning the service requires disconnecting both the camshaft position sensor electrical wiring followed by raising and supporting the vehicle. Before starting the work service you must drain engine oil while you remove the oil pan drain plug then disconnect the crankshaft sensor electrical connection. You should move aside the engine wiring harness before you take out the power steering pump bracket bolts and nuts which enables you to move the A/C compressor out of the way. The crankshaft pulley and crankshaft damper need removal together with four securing bolts. The procedure starts with lowering the vehicle then removing the heater hoses connected to supply tube followed by wiring harness detachment from outlet tube. Begin by removing the heater water outlet tube and camshaft synchronizer before extracting both the crankshaft front oil seal and front cover plus front cover gasket when also unscrewing the concealed cap screw to stop harming the front cover surface. Use Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA which meets Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4 for a small amount of application on the front cover mounting surfaces and oil pan surfaces as well as cylinder block surfaces. As a preventive measure install the cap screw first followed by applying sealant to the front cover gasket before installation. This process prevents oil leakage. Rearrange front cover installation by tightening the bolts twice to reach 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.) followed by a 90° rotation. After securing the camshaft synchronizer install the heater water outlet tube and connect both the wiring harness and tube together. The installation of supply tube heater hoses should be completed after vehicle elevation with proper support to finally add four front oil pan-to-engine front cover bolts. The crankshaft pulley receives reinstatement after which the crankshaft damper installation takes place followed by tightening the nuts including the power steering pump bracket bolts. Lower the vehicle after installing the crankshaft sensor shield as well as connecting its electrical connector. After installing the crankshaft front oil seal the technician should return the battery ground cable back in place and put on the lower radiator hose along with fan shroud and upper radiator hose. You should return the engine air filter and top off the cooling system then install the oil drain plug while using fresh Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or any equivalent product which meets Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G. Operation of the vehicle should follow a leak test to verify system integrity.

    Q:
How to service and repair the timing cover on Ford Windstar? Posted by Customer
    A:
Any service and repair work on the timing cover must start with engine coolant draining procedures. Start by removing crankshaft damper then proceed to remove engine front cover bolts and oil pan to engine front cover bolt. The lower radiator hose requires detachment which begins by adjusting the clamp and proceeding to detach the hose from its connection. Step two begins with disconnecting and then removing the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor along with its bolts until the sensor comes out. Lower the car and remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley by disconnecting its bolt followed by removing the pulley. Take out the accessory drive belt tensioner alongside its bolt and tensioner component. First remove the bracket by taking away its bolt then nut before sliding the clamp to disconnect the heater hose from its old position. The pulley must be removed from the water pump by extracting all bolts and the pulley from its position. The procedure calls for engine front cover and water pump assembly removal through bolt and front cover disassembly but the technicians should discard the front cover gasket. First clean all sealing surfaces of the engine before putting on a new front cover gasket. Install the engine front cover and water pump assembly after applying Pipe Sealant with Teflon D8AZ-19554-A or another product that satisfies Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P-A to specific bolts ahead of full bolt installation. Position the heater hose clamp before installing the water pump pulley along with its bolts. Reconnect the heater hose then install the bracket using the bolt and nuclear. After placing the accessory belt tensioner along with its bolt in position install the accessory idler pulley with its bolt. Follow this order to mount the vehicle on a hoist and install the CKP sensor by inserting bolts after positioning it and connecting the connector. First connect the lower radiator hose before repositioning the clamp and install the engine front cover bolts in the oil pan followed by the crankshaft damper. Complete the cooling system filling process along with bleeding operations.
