2000 Ford Ranger Coil Springs Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Front Coil Springs on a 4X2 on 2000 Ford Ranger?
A: Begin repair and service of 4X2 vehicle front coil springs by placing the vehicle on a hoist before removing both tires and wheels from the vehicle. The upper shock absorber nut/washer assembly and bushing needs detachment before extraction of the front shock absorber with two nuts removed. The front stabilizer bar link needs removal before using a Coil Spring Compressor to compress the coil spring. The service begins with removing the lower ball joint castellated nut while pulling out its cotter pin first. A Pitman Arm Puller enables the separation of the lower ball joint from the front wheel spindle while moving the spindle away from its position before coil spring removal. Before installing the coil spring into the lower arm make sure its end covers the first hole while being invisible in the second hole. The installation of the lower ball joint castellated nut requires a placement starting from the outboard towards the inboard direction with the cotter pin to avoid wheel and tire damage. The front wheel spindle must be positioned onto the lower ball joint after which you should install the castellated nut and complete it with a new cotter pin. You must install the front stabilizer bar link nut before lifting the coil spring compressor then attaching the front shock absorber and finally applying the two lower nuts. Reinstall the tire with wheel assembly after completing the installation of upper shock absorber bushing alongside its attached nut/washer assembly.
