How to service and repair the exhaust manifold on 2000 Ford Ranger?

A proper maintenance process for the exhaust manifold starts with disconnecting both the battery ground cable and the Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IAT sensor). The air cleaner outlet tube along with two nuts must be removed for positioning the transducer to the side. Disassemble the fitting at the EGR valve until it separates from the exhaust manifold while you detach the three-way catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold. Take off the rear engine lifting eye by uninstalling its eye and its attachment nuts first. Detach the exhaust manifold by uninstalling both studs combined with six bolts and throw out the exhaust manifold gasket. After cleaning both exhaust manifold gasket contact surfaces and cylinder head you should add an updated exhaust manifold gasket before installation. Start with a two-stage tightening process for the six bolts and two studs during reverse installation of the manifold by tightening first to 20-23 Nm (15-16 ft. lbs.) and continuing to 60-80 Nm (45-59 ft. lbs.).
