2000 Ford Ranger Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the rear parking brake cable and conduit on 2000 Ford Ranger?
A: Service and repair operations on the rear parking brake cable and conduit must be performed when the parking brake control is in its released state and the parking brake system tension is relaxed. Start this process by stretching down the front parking brake cable and conduit before inserting a 4 mm (5/32 inch) drill bit or suitable retainer. Before starting the procedure the vehicle must be lifted then the tire with wheel assembly should be removed. Remove the parking brake intermediate cable from its locating hole end on the connector as well as from both the LH rear parking brake cable and conduit. Disconnect the parking brake rear cables of both sides at the parking brake cable equalizer before you remove the RH parking brake rear cable from its parking brake cable bracket through the reduced parking brake cable clip tension. The installation begins with removing the LH parking brake rear cable and conduit from its position at the rear parking brake cable retainer and the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit from RH hydraulic brake line clips. You should unclip the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the brake line clip situated on top of the rear axle housing then detach the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever before extracting the parking brake rear cable and conduit through retainer finger compression. Installing requires you to first position the parking brake rear cable along with conduit before linking the parking brake cable to leverage and securing both parts to the brake line clip positioned above the rear axle housing. The RH parking brake rear cable and conduit must mount to the RH hydraulic brake line clips before the connector establishes itself into the parking brake cable bracket without errors. Tighten the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit at the rear parking brake cable retainer so it can connect to the LH parking brake rear cable and conduit at the parking brake cable equalizer. The parking brake intermediate cable needs to be fastened to this combined connection. Before completing the task you need to first mount the wheel and tire combination and then create proper braking tension with the front parking brake wire before removing the retaining mechanisms.
