2000 Ford Windstar Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the automatic transmission shifter on 2000 Ford Windstar?
A: The service and repair of the automatic transmission shifter requires beginning with disconnecting the battery positive cable for one minute to avoid air bag activation before proceeding with battery ground cable disconnection. First disconnect the transmission control switch connector after removing upper and lower steering column shrouds. First disconnect the transmission range selector lever boot then remove the selector lever pin before taking out the selector lever with its attached clip. Place the clip correctly while setting the selector lever into position and change the selector lever pin whenever the removal occurs. Reconnect the transmission control switch connector then place the selector lever boot before you reinstall both the upper and lower steering column shrouds. Finally, reconnect the battery.
