How to service and repair the parking brake cable on 2000 Ford Windstar?

Begin the parking brake cable service by taking out the boot's bottom section from its plastic holder. Activate the control handle in an upward direction if needed. Carefully handle the control boot since its retention through the small plastic tab operates within the control handle notch and improper handling may break the tab leading to boot replacement costs. A small screwdriver should be used to gently lift the retainer tab prior to sliding the boot upwards. Tighten the tension arm by using a screwdriver until it reaches full depression after which installation is complete with a screwdriver or pin. Raising the vehicle to a support position is possible after removing the cable anchor pin. To begin the process disconnect the parking brake cables in the rear section before lowering the vehicle. The floor receives the front cable grommet snap followed by cable removal and opposite installation steps for the new cable.
