2000 Ford Windstar Timing Cover Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on 2000 Ford Windstar?
A: Any service and repair work on the timing cover must start with engine coolant draining procedures. Start by removing crankshaft damper then proceed to remove engine front cover bolts and oil pan to engine front cover bolt. The lower radiator hose requires detachment which begins by adjusting the clamp and proceeding to detach the hose from its connection. Step two begins with disconnecting and then removing the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor along with its bolts until the sensor comes out. Lower the car and remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley by disconnecting its bolt followed by removing the pulley. Take out the accessory drive belt tensioner alongside its bolt and tensioner component. First remove the bracket by taking away its bolt then nut before sliding the clamp to disconnect the heater hose from its old position. The pulley must be removed from the water pump by extracting all bolts and the pulley from its position. The procedure calls for engine front cover and water pump assembly removal through bolt and front cover disassembly but the technicians should discard the front cover gasket. First clean all sealing surfaces of the engine before putting on a new front cover gasket. Install the engine front cover and water pump assembly after applying Pipe Sealant with Teflon D8AZ-19554-A or another product that satisfies Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P-A to specific bolts ahead of full bolt installation. Position the heater hose clamp before installing the water pump pulley along with its bolts. Reconnect the heater hose then install the bracket using the bolt and nuclear. After placing the accessory belt tensioner along with its bolt in position install the accessory idler pulley with its bolt. Follow this order to mount the vehicle on a hoist and install the CKP sensor by inserting bolts after positioning it and connecting the connector. First connect the lower radiator hose before repositioning the clamp and install the engine front cover bolts in the oil pan followed by the crankshaft damper. Complete the cooling system filling process along with bleeding operations.
