2000 Lincoln LS Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the steering knuckle on 2000 Lincoln LS?
A: Service and repair operations of the steering knuckle start by disassembling the wheel hub and bearing assembly. Plug in the hex holding feature into the tie-rod end ball joint to stop it from turning as you remove the nut followed by separating the tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle while disposing of the nut. The weight of the knuckle should rest on a jack stand after you disconnect the lower control arm to prevent damage of the upper control arm. Use the hex holding feature to prevent the lower control arm ball joint from turning before you remove its nut and disconnect the lower arm from the knuckle by discarding the nut. Execute this procedure on the upper control arm by retaining any tapered washer which comes from the ball joint. While installing the knuckle users should rest its weight on a jack stand to avoid damage to the upper control arm. Insert the new nuts between the knuckle and each connecting component of the upper arm and lower arm and tie rod. Use the hex holding feature to hand-tighten them before using a socket torque wrench to achieve proper torque limits. When the lower ball joint stud moves during torque application use a crow's foot wrench alongside the hex holding feature. Take care to add the tapered washer onto the ball joint prior to fitting the upper and lower control arms to the knuckle. Execute the removal procedure in reverse order to complete the installation process.
