2000 Mercury Cougar Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the intake manifold on 2000 Mercury Cougar?
A: The first step for intake manifold repair and servicing involves disconnecting the electrical connectors for the Throttle Position sensor and Idle Air Control as well as the engine control sensor wiring after removing the Air Cleaner outlet tube. Detach the engine wiring harness from the fuel supply manifold before setting it on one side. The vacuum supply hoses of the intake manifold can be disconnected through tab squeezing followed by hose twisting and eventual pulling away. Separate the brake booster vacuum line by removing its quick-release coupling along with pulling and removing the line itself. Remove the accessory drive belt then free the fuel charging wiring and generator bolts while putting the generator aside. To finish the operation remove the intake manifold while discarding the gasket after unbolted all seven bolts and two nuts. Install new intake manifold gasket afterward following the inverse steps of removal.
