2001 Mercury Cougar Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the intake manifold on 2001 Mercury Cougar?
A: Service of the intake manifold starts with removing the Air Cleaner outlet tube then disconnecting the wiring for the Idle Air Control device and Throttle Position sensor and engine control sensors. The procedure starts by disconnecting the fuel supply manifold followed by detaching the engine wiring harness before placing it toward the side. Unravel the vacuum hose supply lines from the intake manifold through tab squeezing and hose twisting and then pull each line away. For brake booster vacuum line removal you need to pull out the line after taking off the quick-release coupling. First detach the fuel charging wiring then the accessory drive belt followed by unscrewing the generator bolts before placing the generator at one side of the engine. You should remove the intake manifold after detaching the seven bolts with two nuts while disposing of the manifold gasket. During reinstallation workers should put a fresh intake manifold gasket before conducting the installation in reverse order.
