2001 Ford E-250 Econoline Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the hydraulic brake booster on 2001 Ford E-250 Econoline?
A: Initial procedures for hydraulic brake booster maintenance include protecting the power brake booster from bullet carriages and drop impact since the accumulator stores hazardous high-pressure nitrogen gas. To dispose of the accumulator one must avoid exposing it to heat and fire because drilling a 1.6 mm (1/16 inch) diameter hole in the end will safely relieve the gas pressure but wear safety glasses for protection. Start operations by refraining from activating the booster when the master cylinder remains outside the system. Use the spare time with the engine turned off to press the brake pedal multiple times to drain the accumulator. Begin the process by disconnecting the power steering pressure hoses while also installing new Teflon seals to the pressure fittings. The battery ground cable should be disconnected first. Proceed with disconnection of the power steering return line hose and removal of two nuts and metal line retainer before using the bolts from the power distribution box bracket to move the box aside. To work on the brake master cylinder you must eliminate the nuts for repositioning the component to one side then detach the speed control deactivator switch and low brake fluid level switch connector. The first step involves removing the stop light switch self-locking pin and then the stoplight switch and brake booster push rod from the brake pedal pin. The last step is to remove power brake booster nuts while simultaneously removing the power brake booster. Perform installation by reversing all the steps used for removal.
