2002 Ford E-250 Econoline Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2002 Ford E-250 Econoline?
A: The service and repair process of vacuum brake boosters begins with disconnecting the battery ground cable. Braking the pedal releases vacuum from the booster before the removal of coolant reservoir bolts and setting the reservoir to the side. Remove the brake master cylinder retaining nuts because they are torque prevailing type nuts that cannot be used again before removing the brake master cylinder. Disassemble the check valve from the power brake booster before removing the stoplight switch self-locking pin. Dismantle the stoplight switch hookups and its booster push rod and bushing from the brake pedal pin before you uninstall the brake booster fasteners. When putting it back together the master cylinder retaining nuts must not be used again while the installation should follow all reversal steps of removal.
