The repair process for the brake backing plate starts by uninstalling first the rear wheel cylinder followed by the rear wheel hub. Separate the parking brake cable from the brake backing plate by first removing the bolt and secondly removing the cable. You need to remove the brake backing plate once you detach all the bolts preserving it. A new backing plate installation requires the same steps used for taking it out.
