2001 Ford Escort Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the intake manifold on 2001 Ford Escort?
A: Start procedure by draining the cooling system followed by removing the air cleaner outlet tube. You must disconnect three vacuum lines that come from the fuel pressure regulator and intake manifold along with lines from the positive crankcase ventilation valve and idle air control valve and exhaust recirculation valve. The service starts by removing the speed control cable (if present) together with the accelerator cable and throttle control lever before unscrewing the bolt. Proceed with disconnecting both the idle air control (IAC) valve and throttle position (TP) sensor electric connecters before taking off the oil level indicator tube bracket bolt which fastens the intake manifold. First disconnect the EGR manifold tube which sits below the EGR valve after raising and supporting the vehicle and then remove the oil level indicator tube from the cylinder block. After removing the nuts the vehicle should be placed on its lowest position as you discard the spent gasket. Before installinginspect both the intake manifold's mounting face and the cylinder head's mounting face until they become flat while staying clean. After applying oil to the manifold studs install the gasket and intake manifold before securing the nuts with hand torque. Once the vehicle is in position raise it again to add nuts then the oil level indicator tube before lowering the vehicle to properly tighten all nuts. Reinstall the EGR manifold tube while tightening its bolt and after reconnecting the IAC valve and throttle position sensor connectors install the speed control cable bracket and its bolt. First connect the speed control cable and accelerator cable to the throttle control lever followed by reconnecting vacuum hoses to the fuel pressure regulator then the intake manifold and after that install vacuum lines to the exhaust recirculation valve then the positive crankcase ventilation valve and lastly the idle air control valve. Terminate the procedure by reinstalling the air cleaner outlet tube then refilling engine cooling system liquid followed by engine startup and leak inspection.
