- Q: How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Hose for the 2.0L Engine on 2001 Ford Escort?A: The procedure to repair or service the power steering line and hose for 2.0L engines starts with disconnecting the battery ground cable followed by raising the vehicle for better access. First disconnect the power steering return hose from the steering gear unit before moving on to the power steering pressure hose. Attention should first be directed towards removing the strap securing the hoses to the steering gear and disconnecting the pressure hose coupling from the power steering pump while applying caps to both components. Drive the vehicle lower before you remove bolts which secure both power steering pressure hose and its brackets. The procedure starts by disconnecting fuel charging wiring electrical connectors. Then separate the fuel charging wiring support bracket by removing its bolt. Finally disconnect the Power Steering Pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector. First, remove the lower power steering hose retaining bracket bolt before separating the upper retaining bracket screw to open it. The lower power steering hose bracket requires detachment from its hose connections before removing the middle power steering hose bracket screw. First remove the retainer bolt that holds the power steering return hose at the pump reservoir then loosen the clamp before disconnecting the hose from the reservoir. The technician should dispose of the O-ring seals after removing all hoses. The installation process requires lubricating new O-ring seals and their installation before placing the hoses inside the car. The power steering return hose needs installation onto the pump reservoir while using a clamp for fixation and installation of the return hose retainer bracket bolt. Fitting the hoses into middle and lower brackets requires attaching them using retaining bracket bolts. The PSP switch electrical connector should be reconnected first along with the installation of the fuel charging wiring support bracket and subsequent electrical connector attachment.
