2001 Ford Excursion Drive Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the One-Piece Drive Shaft for 4x4 with 137-, 141-, and 142-Inch Wheelbases on 2001 Ford Excursion?
A: Start drills and repairs on the one-piece driveshaft for 4x4 vehicles with 137-, 141-, and 142-inch wheelbases by first raising and supporting the vehicle. Index-mark the driveshaft yoke and the transfer case flange. The four bolts and two U-joint retainers of all vehicles except Excursion need to be removed and discarded after index-marking the driveshaft and the rear axle pinion flange. Begin the Excursion front axle service by indexing the driveshaft yoke and the rear axle pinion flange then remove and discard the four front bolts of the driveshaft. Next step requires the employees to remove the four bolts from all vehicles. Vehicles excluding the Excursion require the driveshaft to be disconnected from the rear axle pinion flange before removing it from the vehicle while tape should be applied to bearing cups on the spider to prevent loss. You should use a suitable tool to disconnect the driveshaft yoke from the rear axle pinion flange on the Excursion while avoiding hammering before removing the driveshaft. Set the index marks correctly before you place the driveshaft yoke on the transfer case flange. The bearing cups of all trucks apart from the Excursion need their tape removal before placement within the rear axle pinion flange with correct index mark orientation. Install the driveshaft yoke onto the rear axle pinion flange by matching its index marks during this operation for the Excursion model. Insert four new bolts into each vehicle then install them without full seateng the loose fit for all vehicles. All vehicles except the Excursion will need two new retainers together with the four new bolts for installation. Tighten the bolts of the Excursion driveshaft yoke onto the flange through a progressive pattern starting from a cross configuration. Lower the vehicle following the sequence of tightening all four bolts.
