2001 Ford Focus Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake master cylinder on 2001 Ford Focus?
A: You should start brake master cylinder service and repair by disconnecting the battery ground cable followed by immediate brake fluid spill cleanup with cold water on the paintwork. Start by pulling back the tab of the filler cap electrical connector then depress the clips to disconnect it. First detach the brake fluid reservoir filler cap before you can loosen both front wheel nuts then securely lift the vehicle. The front wheels need removal before you can open the bleed nipple dust cap to loosen the attached nipple. The brake fluid reservoir requires tubing connection to drain fluid into a proper container before performing pedal pumping until fluid stops and closing the bleed nipple. Proceed by lowering the vehicle and replace the brake fluid reservoir cap. To start disassembly remove the air cleaner and outlet tube then disconnect its central electrical box connector before removing the retaining screw so you can detach the central electrical box which you should move to the air cleaner position. Follow the protocol for tube disconnection by applying brake tube caps to avoid fluid leakage and dirt contamination of the system. A repeated application of the brake tube connection caps should be done when anti-lock brakes are present. The booster vacuum needs to be exhausted first by taking the vacuum pipe off the brake booster before taking off the master cylinder. Next uninstall the master cylinder. During installation make sure both faces are properly joined through the vacuum seal and surfaces remain clean until completion of the reinstallation method. The system completion requires brake system bleeding after installation.
